The “Children of the Sea” program, the first of its kind in the country, concluded with a special celebratory day packed with educational and recreational activities and hands-on experiences. The event culminated in the distribution of certificates and gifts to participants, as well as the honoring of partners and supporters who contributed to the success of this pioneering initiative.
The closing ceremony was attended by Ali Ammash, Director of the Education Department at the Jisr al-Zarqa Local Council; Mahmoud Ammash, Director of the Youth Department; Mohammed Jirban, Director of the 360 Program; Sami Al-Ali, Director of the Jisr al-Zarqa Heritage Center; and Tawfiq Hamed, Secretary of the Fishermen’s Committee in Al-Fureidis, alongside the educational programs and research team from Aqua Ocean Association.
The final day featured a series of scientific and practical activities, as well as motivational and recreational events that reflected the educational and environmental themes at the heart of the program since its launch. Participants also enjoyed a special field trip aboard Aqua Ocean Association’s research vessel, where they were introduced to the world of marine research, methods for studying the marine environment, and the importance of protecting coastal and marine ecosystems.
“Children of the Sea” is a unique educational and community-based project designed to strengthen children’s connection with the sea, enhance their environmental and marine knowledge, and instill a sense of belonging to the maritime heritage and a commitment to protecting natural resources. The program combines scientific knowledge, hands-on experience, and enjoyable learning.
The program is the result of a partnership between Aqua Ocean Association, the local councils of Jisr al-Zarqa and Al-Fureidis, the Jisr al-Zarqa Heritage Center, and the fishermen’s committees of the two communities. It represents an inspiring model of cooperation among educational, community, and environmental organizations to nurture a generation that is aware of marine environmental issues and capable of contributing to their protection and preservation for future generations.
At the conclusion of the program, the partners emphasized that this initiative is not a one-time event, but rather the beginning of a long-term journey aimed at expanding and developing the program in the future. The goal is to reach more children and young people in coastal communities while strengthening a culture of marine knowledge, environmental protection, and preservation of maritime heritage within the community.
